Abstract

The present paper aims at analyzing the importance of education for the empowerment of tribal communities in India. In the beginning of Independent India, the literacy rate among the Tribes was only 8.54 percent. But it has increased to 63.1 percent by 2011. No doubt it is a success in the primary level. But in higher education, representation of Tribal students is very discouraging with only 4.2 percent. This paper aims to examine the impact of education on the empowerment of Tribal population in rural India.
