Abstract

“The mind coupled with virtue is called intellect” (Thirukkural, 453).

Valluvar emphasizes that human understanding arises from the mind and natural reasoning. Acquiring knowledge of nature is considered an exercise of human intellect and an expression of elevated mental faculties. The term manam (mind) refers not only to the inner self but also encompasses cognitive and emotional functions. Understanding and analyzing mental processes becomes essential in appreciating human behavior and thought.
