Abstract

This article examines the political landscape of contemporary Tamil Nadu through the lens of literary criticism found in the poems of Abdul Rahman. It highlights the crucial role of politics as the backbone of a nation and stresses the impact of political dysfunction and unfulfilled public expectations on national progress. The article critiques political parties, power struggles, misinformation, and media complicity in perpetuating ineffective governance. Using poetry as a medium, Abdul Rahman illuminates issues such as party symbolism, false promises, factionalism, voter manipulation, and political servitude. The poet’s work reflects the growing disconnect between politicians and the common people, emphasizing the need for sincere, ethical leadership and critical public engagement in democratic processes. The article also references views from prominent thinkers like Periyar, Tamilkudimagan, and Vedathiri Maharishi to underscore the urgency for political awareness and reform.
