குறுந்தொகைகுறிஞ்சிப் பாடலில் அறிவியல் சிந்தனைகள்
Abstract
This article explores the multifaceted significance of the Kuruntokai, an eminent anthology within the Sangam corpus, highlighting its cultural, philosophical, and linguistic richness. Compiled by poet Poothththar, Kuruntokai comprises four hundred concise poems spread across four categories, reflecting ancient Tamil values of morality, domestic life, femininity, and scientific thought. Special focus is given to the poem known as the "Thalaivi Kootru," which praises the leader or chieftain, encapsulating the depth of interpersonal relationships and friendship in Sangam society. The article examines how the poem’s layered metaphorical imagery blends natural elements with profound human emotions, illustrating the Tamil ethos of measured love beyond quantification. It underscores the representation of the rich natural resources of Tamil Nadu’s mountainous regions and the symbolic connection between the leader’s greatness and the bounty of his land. The role of beekeeping and honey as metaphors for social and cultural nourishment is also discussed, emphasizing the enduring human values embedded in this classical work.
