Abstract

During the Sangam age, art and social life were closely interconnected. Women played a significant role, especially in drama and dance traditions. This study examines the presence and contributions of women performers (dancing women) as depicted in Sangam literature. Literary sources such as the Tolkappiyam, Silappathikaram, and other classical texts provide valuable insights into their artistic skills, social status, and cultural importance. The study also highlights different forms of dance, performance traditions, and the role of women in sustaining artistic heritage during the Sangam period.
