The Weapon that Destroys Humanity & Arrogance
மனிதனை வீழ்த்தும் ஆயுதம் & ஆணவம்
Abstract
The concept of “Anava” (ego or self-conceit) is a fundamental aspect of Saiva Siddhanta philosophy. Anavais considered one of the three primary impurities (mala) that afflict the soul, along with Maya (illusion) and Karma (action). It is described as a primal ignorance that obscures the soul’s true nature and prevents it from realizing its inherent divinity. According to Saiva Siddhanta, Anava arises from the soul’s inherent imperfection and is the root cause of its bondage to the cycle of birth and death. The philosophy emphasizes the need to transcend Anava through spiritual practices and self-realization, ultimately achieving liberation (Mukti) from the cycle of suffering. In the state of Mukti, the soul is freed from the influence of Anava, allowing it to realize its true nature and
attain union with the divine.
