Abstract

The rapid growth of digital technologies has greatly reshaped language education by changing how it is taught, the way students learn, and the availability of linguistic materials. This paper examines the transformative impact of digital technologies on language pedagogy, with a particular focus on language acquisition, teaching strategies, and student engagement in contemporary learning environments. It explores the integration of digital tools and platforms in language classrooms, highlighting the opportunities and challenges they present. Drawing on a qualitative review of recent research and empirical studies, this paper adopts a thematic and analytical methodology to investigate emerging approaches such as Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL), mobile-assisted learning, virtual reality environments, and online language exchange platforms. This study further analyzes the role of social media, gamification, and artificial intelligence in enhancing advanced language learning experiences. The findings indicate that digital technologies significantly improve learner engagement, promote autonomous learning, and facilitate intercultural communication. Additionally, adaptive learning systems and AI-driven tools personalise instruction and support diverse learner needs. However, the study also identifies challenges, including the digital divide, lack of teacher training, and concerns related to over-reliance on technology. The paper concludes that while digital transformation has revolutionised language education, its effective implementation requires the development of digital literacy and critical thinking skills among learners and educators. This emphasises the need for balanced pedagogical frameworks that integrate technology with traditional teaching practices. This study offers insights for future research and suggests innovative strategies for optimising language-learning experiences in the evolving digital era.
