Environmental Thoughts in the Seventh ‘Oozhi’ Essays
ஏழாவது ஊழி கட்டுரைகளில் சுற்றுச்சூழல் சிந்தனைகள்
Abstract
Author P. Ainkaranesan points out that for all the sufferings experienced by the natural environment, the sole cause is humankind. To escape from this catastrophe, he insists that man must abandon his dominance over the earth and return to a relationship of cooperation. This book, which consists of forty-two essays, spans a wide range of topics, beginning with worms and insects and extending up to global warming. The work Ezhavadhu Oozhi (“The Seventh Apocalypse”) opens with an essay on global warming, and in the very next chapter it criticizes America, which is seen as a major cause. Some essays also aim to show that the environment is not merely a social issue. They highlight dangers such as how modern kitchen utensils themselves have become poisonous, how jeans as a symbol of civilization are harmful to the environment, the hazards caused by cell phones, and the toxic nature of products like Coke, Pepsi, pesticides, plastics, and asbestos.
