Abstract

A. Madhavan holds a significant place among modern Tamil writers. Having written for over half a century, his works have not been adequately recognized in our critical world, resulting in the obscurity of a major literary figure. His creations, which convey the realities of life with subtlety and without any embellishment, discuss the virtues of human existence. They reveal the innate moral sense within the human mind without resorting to exaggeration or melodrama. This uniqueness is expressed through a simple narrative style that maintains artistic integrity. In his stories, most focus on the lives of the street dwellers of Thiruvananthapuram. During the period when he was actively writing, his literary world was not properly approached by anyone. He was recognized merely as a realist writer who observed human values through the events of daily life. However, his fiction, which skillfully employs local dialects and portrays human nature without any moralizing, should be subjected to thorough research. The naturalistic characters within his stories naturally depict human values. A detailed examination of this is essential. In human relationships, lack of compassion, enmity, exploitation, betrayal, violence, lust, and murder occur naturally. The characters who embody these traits roam freely in A. Madhavan’s fictional world. Through the journey of his stories, this article highlights the moral consciousness of the street dwellers he portrays.
