Abstract

The novel Tea written by Daniel Selvaraj meticulously records the life of tea plantation workers. It can be seen that there are comments about the cramped and inadequately equipped housing called layam. It can be seen that they have the habit of drinking blackcurrant with tea. They also call tea by names such as teth water, kadichchan water, and teailaikashayam. The workers worship their ancestral deity, Koothanachi Amman, and have beliefs in sacrifice, rituals, and ghost worship. It shows how the workers are cheated through the account called puranottu. This research article indicates that tea plantation workers rely on traditional medical methods and beliefs instead of modern medical facilities.
